Brennan was in pain. A complete, utter pain that originated from somewhere in his heart. There was only one thing that could take away his pain.

And she appeared right in front of him.

All seriousness, he kneeled in front of her.

"In vain have I struggled, it will not do," he said, in anguish. "You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."

Shalimar blinked several times, stared at him for a moment, then took a long breath.

"Who gave Brennan beer and Pride and Prejudice!" she bellowed.

From afar, Jesse and Lexa snickered.

I expect Lexa to echo away, "Well, he's tolerable, I suppose, but he's not handsome enough to tempt me."

But that's only my projection.
