For Brennan, it was a morning like other mornings and yet perfect among mornings until Jesse caught him coming out from her room.

Jesse didn't stopped walking, like he didn't want movement to cease. "Congratulations."

"That all?"

"What, you expecting brotherly warnings, Brennan? 'I'll break your legs if you break her heart'?"

"Maybe. You think I'm not good enough for Shalimar?"

"No one's good enough for her."

"I can't give her up, not even for you, Jess."

Jesse finally stopped. "I gave her up. For her."

Brennan watched, silenced, as Jesse walked away.

Suddenly, the morning was far from perfect.
